A Ferrari in a rally is not at all its natural habitat. And yet, that’s exactly what happened in the early 1980s. Even though this model shares its engine and parts with the Stratos, its weight makes it a poor foundation for a rally car. In order to counter this natural flaw, the 308 GTB Gr.4 had its bodywork replaced with fiberglass to reduce weight. The Prancing Horse avoided gravel rallies and focused on asphalt events. That’s how Jean-Claude Andruet found himself at the start of the 1981 Tour de Corse with this unique machine. Co-driven by “Biche,” the talented French duo made the 308 GTB shine. They were leading the event before being forced to retire due to mechanical failure. Andruet and his 308 GTB finished the 1981 season by becoming European Rally Vice-Champions!
