Introduced to the French market in 1972, this small city car quickly established itself as a best-seller. In fact, it has been the sixth best-selling car in France since 1947! The GTL version went on sale in 1976. Against the backdrop of the oil crisis, it boasted lower fuel consumption compared to other R5 trim levels. It stood out for its plastic side panels that appeared to extend the bumpers. Its success was immediate, and the GTL became the best-selling version of the R5.
