Peugeot and motor sport have a long relationship starting in the 1980s. In 1981, the “Peugeot-Talbot-Sport” department was founded. It was in this decade that Peugeot became a major competitor with the 205 T16, which excelled in rallies, rally-raids and even Pikes Peak! With the end of Group B in 1986, Peugeot left the WRC. 13 years later, the French manufacturer is back in competition with its Peugeot 206 WRC! In the glory days of World Rally Cars, the lioness wants a piece of the action! With the help of engineer Michel Nandan, the French car impresses not only with its blue and white launch livery, but also with its performance. It makes its official debut at the Tour de Corse 1999. François Delecour even took the provisional lead at the end of SS2, giving the 206 its first scratch time on SS7. As for Gilles Panizzi, he battled for the top 5, before being stopped by a mechanical failure at the end of the second day. The 206 WRC made a promising start, symbolizing its future success: three manufacturers' championship titles and two drivers' titles! The proud successor to the 205 T16 is born!
